This café opened up relatively recently but already it seems to have caught on to all the latest brunch trends and all that other good stuff buzzing on the online world of food. It’s got kind of a catchy name too. Immediately you can see they have gone for an industrial-style interior with the rustic brick walls and large windows. I love that there’s a lot of natural light and that the layout is open and relatively spacious.
The staff are welcoming and seem quite knowledgeable about the menu, which is important when you have a million and one questions about what contains what. The food and coffee came out really quickly which was great. My cappuccino wasn’t burnt which is always a positive, but it tasted slightly on the weaker side. However, it really comes down to preference and I do prefer my coffee a little stronger. One odd thing you will notice about the menu is that alongside the soy and almond milk options, you will find that they also offer camel’s milk. Someone – please give this a go and let me know how it is! I’m so curious but definitely not game enough haha 🙂
I opted for the pumpkin grain toast with my beloved PB & J! I hadn’t eaten bread in forever and decided it was time to feed into those cravings. The first thing I noticed was that the size of the toast was generously large which was a huge tick. The peanut butter and jam portions were sufficient, meaning I didn’t have to look greedy and ask for more halfway through.
Seb ordered the beetroot fritters which came with a side of tabbouleh and tzatziki. They could have done with a bean salad or something starchy on the side in place of the tabbouleh and perhaps a little bit more of a kick in the beetroot fritters. I do love my spices though. Overall it seemed like a nice healthy option that wasn’t too heavy.
I liked that we didn’t have to fight for any seats when we got there around 11am on a Saturday. They’ve got a mix of individual tables, a shared table, and window seating. When you go up to pay at the counter you can see a few sweet treats in the display that look very very tempting. I have yet to try any but I appreciate cafés that have those available for times when you just want to relax with a coffee and some dessert. Definitely pop in to Jethro Canteen if you happen to be searching for food or coffee in the area!
