Who doesn’t love pancakes stuffed with your choice of nutella, oreos, or PB & J? Vegan? No problem! Butterlake Pancakes offer three vegan pancake options!
Legit, my reaction.
I had a very memorable experience trying these pancakes during my last visit to the Queen Victoria Winter Night Markets two years ago. When I saw that they were here again, immediately, I knew I had to save some stomach room for dessert 🙂
These Taiwanese street-food pancakes are made right in front of you, with your choice of filling, served with a side of ice cream or coconut whipped cream (vegan option). You can mix-and-match three options and each pancake is cut in half before being presented to you to reveal the sugary warm oozey filling inside. As someone who is always camera-ready when it comes to food, this was much appreciated because no one wants to see a photo of a half-bitten pancake.
I ordered: Nutella, Peanut Butter & Jam, and Oreo & Choc Chip with Coconut Whipped Cream. This came to a total of $12.
How AH-MAZING does that look?
The Butterlake Pancakes Breakdown
Nutella: No faults, other than the pancake itself being slightly undercooked.
Peanut Butter & Jam: Not enough peanut butter 🙁 I actually had to inspect it for a while to see if there was any in there. The pancake was too undercooked, more so than the nutella one. As it was already lacking enough filling, the whole pancake felt too doughy and mushy and slightly bland.
Oreo & Choc Chip: Perfect!
Coconut Whipped Cream: I was skeptical at first but I ended up really enjoying the lightness it offered to balance out the heavy doughy-ness of the pancakes. My only issue with it was that it melted way too fast and very quickly became like a soup at the bottom of my bowl, making the to-be-eaten pancakes somewhat soggy.
Overall it’s a very exciting dessert to eat, but definitely not something to be eaten by yourself after a big meal. It’s split into six halves which makes it easy for sharing though. I’d recommend you pop by the Butterlake Pancakes stall and try the nutella and the oreo one if you’re craving something chocolatey 😛
