I went to Yuzu for the second time, which is a Japanese restaurant in the Melbourne CBD, and decided to break habit and try something different. The first time I went here I got the fried soba (though not realising they were using egg noodles and not buckwheat) and I found the portions good for the price. This time around I went for the katsu curry don and we decided to share a few dishes to start.
To be honest the shared dishes filled me up pretty quickly and I was close to stuffed by the time my main came out.
I swapped the rice in my katsu curry don to brown rice. However, when the meal came out they’d forgotten and given me white rice instead. They were quick to apologise and replace it and gave a very generous amount.
One thing I can say about Yuzu though is that they are great when it comes to delivering a tasty filling meal. They also have happy hour and a cute selection of cocktails to choose from. On my first visit I ordered the ‘harajuku girl’ cocktail and although it wasn’t something I tend to go for, I enjoyed being the child that I am and nibbling on all the hundreds and thousands around the brim.
The restaurant interior creates a very Japanese feel and the staff also dress the part. It’s spacious and ideal for both families and couples. I checked out the restroom too (as you do) and was pleasantly surprised to find out that they provide ‘thank you’ hand lotion! Totally not relevant to the food but it’s the small things that matter 🙂
The staff are always friendly and welcoming and that is a big plus for me because there’s nothing worse than being snobbed off or rushed when you go out to eat. I wouldn’t recommend this place for a go-to cheap eats but for a casual or even slightly dressy day or night out, it does well.
